Skiing for the First Time

One of the best things about snow is going skiing. It’s all about the slopes, the snow, your skis and you. It’s freedom, with a little bit of adrenalin injected into it. I took my kids skiing this winter and I’d forgotten how complicated things can get the first time you go skiing.

The key is to make sure that the first time you go skiing, it’s enjoyable and fun instead of annoying and tedious. So it’s best to find a ski resort that offers slopes for beginners. If you are taking your kids or grandkids for the first time or if you are going to try skiing for the first time yourself, make sure you start off at a resort that offers a little bit of training plus a few good slopes for beginners. This way you can learn a few tips and tricks before heading up to the more advanced slopes and you can make sure that the skiing is fun.

Getting a lesson is a good investment of time and money. Skiing is entirely different than what we figure it out to be and it’s hard to teach young ones. So just get a lesson or two and then listen to the instructors and all should go well. If you have never been skiing before you might think that you need to go buy those fancy ski outfits to go with your skis. Not really, you just need to find a turtleneck, a fleece jacket and a pair of insulating pants to be worn underneath your waterproof snow pants and a winter jacket. That’s all. No need for fancy gear for the first time out. You can also rent the skis and boots. Check with the resort first to see if they offer the facilities and just rent them on your first time out. Have fun out there!
